Our Team

We have a team of well-trained, experienced and dedicated pathologists with years of diagnostic clinical experience supported by well-trained biomedical scientists. Our team members belong to various local, sub-regional and international pathology organizations and are determined to practice pathology in its modern form without borders.

Dr. Lawrence Edusei (MD) Pathologist
Lawrence is a pathologist with over eighteen (18) years of laboratory practice. After returning to Ghana in 1999, he has been involved in routine diagnostic work, research and training of both undergraduate and post graduate students in different capacities at the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. He received his undergraduate medical training in Romania and completed his housemanship at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital. Subsequently travelling to Austria for pathology training. Following completion of his pathology training in Austria, at the University of Innsbruck in 1999, he was appointed a specialist Pathologist in 2003 at the KBTH. He subsequently went back to Austria (University of Feldkirch) for cytology training and returned to work in the department in 2008. Over the years, he acquired tremendous experience as a surgical pathologist in the Department of Pathology. During the period he also taught as a part time lecturer at the School of Nursing and the School of Allied Health Sciences, University of Ghana. He is a member of AORTIC, WADIAP, IAP and ASCP. He has collaborated with colleagues and other researchers to conduct important research projects, such as, ‘Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy in advanced breast cancer’ with Mayo in 2003, ‘Ghana Prostate health study’ with NCI in 2004, ‘A multidisciplinary Study of Breast Cancer in Ghana’ with NCI (2013 – 2015) and ‘Renal Complications in Sickle Cell Trait and Disease’ a project which still ongoing. He has been supporting the pathology departments of the 37 Military hospital from 2001till date and the Police hospital as a visiting Pathologist from 2001 till 2016. He is currently the principal pathologist in ‘SIOP AFRICA/PODC, Collaborative Wilms Tumour Project. He has presented papers at international conferences. He is registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Ghana, with registration number MDC/RN/ 02512 with date of full registration 1987, additional qualification registered as specialist pathologist in 1999 He is graced with ability and wisdom to achieve good successes in all endeavors and is more than able to contribute significantly to achieving goals in any project he is involved in.

Dr. Simon Napro Pathologist
Simon is Senior Specialist pathologist at the Accra regional hospital (Ridge Hospital) he is the Head of the Department of Pathology. He had his undergraduate medical training at the University of Development Studies and the University of Ghana Medical School from 1998-2005 and was awarded an MBChB in 2005. He had his postgraduate/professional training at the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons from 2009-2017, and was awarded the Fellowship (FGCPS), Laboratory Medicine (Anatomic pathology) in October 2017. He is a Fellow of the faculty of laboratory medicine of the Ghana College of Physicians (FGCP). During the period he was posted to the Tamale Teaching Hospital as a specialist pathologist and also taught at the University of development studies as a part time lecturer in pathology. He did his cytopathology training at the Teaching Hospital of the University of Essen, Essen, Germany. He subsequently had a clinical training in oncology/ pathology at Roswell Park Cancer Institute, Buffalo New York, USA. He is a member of the West African division of the international academy of pathologists (WADIAP). His registered with the Ghana Medical and Dental Council with date of full registration in 2006 and additional qualification as a specialist pathologist registered in 2013

Dr. Patrick Kafui Akakpo Pathologist
Kafui is a Senior Lecturer and the Head of the Departmnt of Pathology, School Medical Sciences of the College of Health Sciences, University of Cape Coast. He is a Pathologist at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. He had his undergraduate medical training at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) from 1997-2004 and was awarded an MBChB in 2004. He had his postgraduate/professional training at the West African College of Physicians and the Ghana College of Physicians and Surgeons from 2007-2013, and was awarded the Fellowship (FWACP), Laboratory Medicine (Anatomic pathology) in October 2013. He is a member of the faculty of laboratory medicine of the Ghana College of Physicians (MGCP) and a Fellow of the West African College of Physicians (Lab Medicine- Anatomic pathology). He did his cytopathology training at the Technical University of Munich, Klinikum Reichts der Isar in Munich Germany. He was trained in forensic human identification (forensic anthropology) by the Argentine forensic anthropology society at the University Witwatersrand, South Africa. His expertise is in diseases affecting the female genital tract. He is a member of the International Society of Gynaecological Pathologists (ISGyP) and has received funding from the society to carry out research. He is a member of the West African division of the international academy of pathologists (WADIAP). He has authored a book titled ‘Autopsy practice in Ghana’, which was published in 2015. His MDC certification number is: MDC/RN/05924, with date of full registration 23 RD April 2007, additional qualification registered as specialist pathologist in 2011 He is registered with the Medical and Dental Council (MDC), with date of full registration 2007 and additional qualification registered as specialist pathologist in 2011.
